Hosted in collaboration between the Parkland Poets' Society and Backyard Birds Nature Shop, this special event invites local poets and nature lovers alike to come together and celebrate the beauty of the natural world through words. Enjoy readings of original poetry and selected nature-themed pieces, or bring along your own to share during the open mic portion. Whether you’re an avid writer, a quiet listener, or somewhere in between, we welcome you to take part in this cozy and inspiring evening.

March 26, 2026 - Build a Bird Nesting Wreath Class with Lisa! (Register Here)
Join us to make a fun and functional bird nesting wreath out of all sorts of mosses, grasses, and other all-natural materials! The birds will come and collect materials from the wreath to build or fortify their nest. We will also talk a bit about what birds are commonly seen using the nesting wreath, and which species are more likely to be building nests in your yard!

March 27, 2026 - Book Folding with Ashley - Level 2! (Register Here)
Back for part two, instructor Ashley McCoy will walk you through all of the steps to create a beautiful work of art, just by folding the pages of a book! It is such a neat craft, and a unique and clever use for books that might otherwise be left to collect dust! This is our level 2 course, which means it isn't just folding, it is cutting and folding. Ideally you have some experience folding books, or attended our previous class, but if you don't, that's okay, we can teach you!

April 11, 2026 - Wood Carving for Beginners with Ryan! (Register Here)
Join Ryan from Puhlmann Supply Company to create your very own hand-carved feather AND hummingbird. This class is designed for beginners, so even if you have never touched carving supplies before, this class is for you! He will take you through step-by-step to carve, burn, stone, and paint both pieces that you can then take home and proudly display!

Cost: $99+tax=$103.95 per person, includes all tools and supplies needed to make one hand-carved feather, and one hand-carved hummingbird! These can be made into magnets, or hanging ornaments.
What to Bring: Ryan provides the wood for carving, as well as all of the carving tools you will need. He does ask that you please bring a bath towel to carve your piece on, as well as a hand towel to wipe your hands on as you are working! Also, your clothes may get dirty as we work, so please wear something you don't mind getting a little dusty!
April 12, 2026 - Fused Glass Lantern Workshop! (Register Here)
Join us for a cozy, creative evening making your own beautiful two-panel fused glass lantern. This beginner-friendly class lets you design custom glass panels that will glow warmly in a lantern you will be excited to display at home, or give as a gift!
Cost: Depends on the design, between $70-$85+tax per person, includes all supplies needed to make a lantern with TWO fused glass art panels (the other two panels are just regular glass panels).
This class must be paid in full upon registration due to the cost of course materials and time required to prepare for the class. Pricing includes all materials, instruction and firing. After the workshop, the piece is taken to be fired, and turnaround for delivery of the lantern back to the shop for pickup is 3 weeks.
Note: There is not a set design for your panels - you have the creativity to create anything you like! This class is great for beginners, no experience required!
April 14, 2026 - Weave a Willow Bird House with Candice! (Register Here)
Join our amazing basket weaving instructor, Candice Cullum, for an evening class where we will use willow, red osier dogwood, and other natural materials to weave a little dwelling for birds! Whether you want to use it as decor, or try placing it outside to see if any wrens or sparrows build a nest, it will be a fun night of weaving for all!

To complete your project, you'll mount your sculpture on a unique piece of driftwood. Throughout the class, Laura shares the tips & tricks and cool science behind working with wire. All supplies are included for this project, and no prior experience working with wire is necessary.
