These Native (To Alberta) Wildflower seeds have been source-identified and hand collected in Southern Alberta by Wild About Flowers.
Sticky Geranium is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial with deeply lobed, dark green leaves and large, magenta, five-petaled flowers that bloom from late spring to mid-summer. The vibrant blooms attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, making it a valuable addition to pollinator-friendly gardens. Its sticky stems and leaves help deter herbivores and give the plant its name. In fall, the finely textured foliage turns bright red, adding seasonal interest to both naturalized landscapes and garden settings with minimal maintenance.
Sticky Geranium is well suited to a variety of applications, forming loose clumps without becoming invasive. While it may be occasionally browsed, it is not a preferred forage plant. It can be seedy, using ballistic seed dispersal to fling its seeds away from the mother plant, but unwanted seedlings are easy to identify, transplant, or remove. This species supports beneficial predatory insects such as ladybugs and tachinid flies, which help control pest populations. Interestingly, some studies suggest it may exhibit proto-carnivorous behavior, digesting trapped insects on its sticky leaves.
